I looked around Buttermilk Falls and Treman Park without much luck, though I am a complete newbie at tree ID stuff. I need to find some walnuts for the Primitive Pursuits apprenticeship class. Anybody have any advice?

Try McDaniels Park. From Ecovillage, go down the hill on RT 79 until you hit warren Rd. follow Warren Rd until it dead ends at a T with Hook Place. Straight in front of you is a park, marked with a big rock saying McDaniels Park. There were lots of nuts on the ground a few weeks ago. Bring gloves, if they are still there the hulls will be squishy and will stain your hands. Lehmans sells a nut cracker that can crack black walnuts open without crushing the meat inside. Good luck.
